Mitt Romney has yet to win a single GOP primary vote yet, but he's already launching his general election attack on President Obama, with a vicious -- and some say deceitful -- new ad.
The 60-second spot - Romney's first of the 2012 presidential campaign-shows Obama during a stop in New Hampshire in 2008 as ominous music plays in the background.
The text "he promised he would fix the economy," and "he failed" then appear on the screen.
At one point, Obama is heard saying "If we keep talking about the economy, we're going to lose."
Although it sounds Obama is talking about his chances of winning in 2012, the then-Senator was actually quoting an aide from Sen. John McCain's presidential campaign in 2008.
Obama's reelection campaign spokesman Ben Labolt described the ad to Huffington Post as "a deceitful and dishonest attack."
The Democratic National Committee also ripped the ad — airing in New Hampshire starting Tuesday — as misleading.
Team Romney argues the quote was used intentionally and acknowledged in an email to supporters that it was Obama's rival who used it.
"Three years ago, candidate Barack Obama mocked his opponent's campaign for saying, 'If we keep talking about the economy, we're going to lose,' " said Romney communications director Gail Gitcho.
"Now, the tables have turned. ... President Obama and his team don't want to talk about the economy and have tried to distract voters from his abysmal economic record."
The attribution, however, is not disclosed in the TV spot.
The video release comes the same day Obama makes a pit stop in the Granite State. He's expected to urge Congress to extend payroll tax cuts.
Romney also ran ads ripping Obama in several New Hampshire newspapers on Tuesday, writing "I will be blunt. Your policies have failed."
